On October 29th 2010, the European project FIRST launched at the International ICT Congress – ANDICOM 2010 in Cartagena de Indias, RECIIF – a collaborative network for R&D&i in Future Internet in Colombia.
“RECIIF has been conceived as a community that brings together representatives from the Industry (large companies and SMEs) and Academia to encourage and promote a coherent approach to R&D&i activities on Future Internet in Colombia” stated Ms. Ana María Trimmiño, Project Manager at CINTEL, local partner of the project FIRST.

The launch of RECIIF was attended by representatives of the members of its Steering Council such as Multimedia Service, Internexa, Telefónica Telecom, UNE – EPM Telecomunicaciones, Universidad de los Andes, Universidad San Buenaventura – Bogotá, Universidad del Quindío, Universidad Manuela Beltrán, Universidad Santo Tomás, Universidad ICESI, Fedesoft, Parquesoft and COLCIENCIAS.
There was an acclamation for the nomination of the first President of RECIIF to Mr. Jose Jaime Gómez Cudris, Multimedia Service and Vice-president Mr. Alejandro Guzmán, Internexa. Among the first tasks to carry out, the Steering Council, which is open for new members, will focus on the elaboration of a strategic vision on future Internet in Colombia, a strategic research agenda for cooperation with European researchers as well as a number of meetings to allow scientific and technology discussions among Colombian researchers and with European Technology Platforms. Dr. Seseña (Coordinator of FIRST project and member of European Technology Platforms NEM, eMobility, ISI, NESSI) congratulated CINTEL for the successful setting of the Colombian RECIIF, as well as offer the full European support to the elected Chair and ViceChair.

ECIIF will focus initially on defining a vision for the Future Internet in Colombia and a Strategic Research Agenda in three topics, namely:

- Mobile and wireless communications

- Electronic Media Network

- Software & Services

With this event, RECIIF starts formally its operation towards becoming, for the year 2012, the national meeting place par excellence of the Colombian Industry and Academy and the international reference point for the promotion and creation of R&D&i projects on Future Internet that contribute to the development of ICT sector and society in Colombia.
In addition to the launch of RECIIF, the project FIRST and RECIIF jointly held an open meeting in order to disseminate the objectives of the project FIRST and to invite key stakeholders to join RECIIF. The open meeting was attended by speakers such Mr. Oswaldo Castillo, Coordinator of the National Program for Electronics, Telecommunication and Informatics at COLCIENCIAS, Ms. Martha Inés Giraldo, Executive Director of the network RENATA, Mr. Julian Seseña, Coordinator of the Project FIRST, Mr. Jose Jaime Gomez, president of RECIIF, Mr. Alejandro Guzmán, Vice-president of RECIIF and Ms. Ana Maria Trimmiño, Project Manager at CINTEL.
The open event highlighted the importance of collaboration and networking to strengthen the R&D&i in Colombia. Mr José Jaime Gómez, General Manager of Multimedia Service and President of RECIIF evinced the opportunities that participating in this community brings to Colombian entities and invited new stakeholders of the ICT sector to join the Community.
