A high level group of EU-LatAm experts and observers are participating in the definition of a common EU-LatAm Vision document for strengthen R&D activities between both regions. In addition, it is important to remark that this is a historical moment since the FIRST project is inaugurating the Future Internet discussions in Latin America; therefore, this is just starting!

Daniel Lupi is the president of the Argentinean Nanotechnology Foundation and within the PLATA technology platform he is coordinating the ICT components working group. He had the chance of participating in the ENIAC CATRENE Brokerage held in Berlin on February 1 – 2, 2011.

In this interview, he explains his experience in this meeting and how the relation between European Technology Platforms and LATPs can improve Latin America’s work.

2nd workshop in Colombia

On February 11th took place the first meeting of the Thematic Working Group (TWG) NEM_MEX from the Mexican Technology Platform (MTP) via Satellite Internet access provided through satellites to users world-wide. The service was provided by the Virtual University of Monterrey Tech.

“It is important to create Technology Platforms in order to have a space of participation and discussion in which private, academic and public sector can jointly define the priorities for the country”. CEPAL supports the FIRST project towards a Latin American – European Union Future Internet R&D Strategy. Interview with @Lis2-ECLAC Coordinator, Néstor Bercovich.

It is a great pleasure to announce that Argentine company G&L Group have won the European Seal of e-Excellence 2011Award  in the Gold category, Special Mention: Latin America.

FIRST had the chance of interviewing Mr. Marcos Pueyrredón, president of ILCE, the Latin American Institute of e-Commerce. As a specialist in Internet subjects, he gave us a very interesting perspective from Latin America.

On February 9, at 16 GMT, Bogotá, Buenos Aires, D.F., Lima, Madrid, Medellín, Santiago de Chile and São Paulo were connected through video conference rooms provided by the academic network RedCLARA and its local members: REUNA, Renata, CUDI, RNP, RAAP, Innova-Red and Red Iris (which belongs to GÉANT).

During a Training Seminar on Scientific Journalism organized by OAS in Buenos Aires, the FIRST project had the chance of interviewing Mr. Jorge Duran, Science and Technology Officer of the OAS, in order to inform about the Latin American Technology Platform set up and to know the possible links between OAS and the FIRST Project
