Buenos Aires: On May 20th, the Ministry of Science, Technology and Productive Innovation of Argentina hosted the fourth meeting of PLATA Technology Platform. The goal of the encounter was to debate the Future Internet Strategic Research Agenda (SRA), between Argentina and European Union,

The first to open the floor was Mrs. Monica Silenzi, Technical Coordinator of ABEST, International Cooperation Deparment of MINCyT, who explained the interest of the Ministry on the Technology Platforms, instrument that can strategically be used to cooperate in R&D activities with the European Union. Argentina has a privileged relation with EU since it can affects future European calls, as FP7, FP8 and other calls.

La Red de Colaboración para la I+D+i en Internet del Futuro en Colombia – RECIIF – y el proyecto FIRST celebrarán el próximo 25 y 26 de mayo de 2011 su tercer evento nacional con miras a promover la cooperación y colaboración en investigación, desarrollo tecnológico e innovación en Colombia a nivel nacional e internacional.

The Colombian Technology Platform RECIIF and the project FIRST will held on May 25th and 26th the third national event to promote cooperation and collaboration for research, technological development and innovation in Colombia at national and international level.

In this opportunity, the Steering Council of RECIIF will discuss the status of the Strategic Research Agenda, will formalize the vision of the community and will identify potential projects according to the priorities identified in the SRA up until now. This event is aimed at providing a meeting point for the Colombian Industry and Academy to create synergy, join forces and identify potential joint R&D&I projects in Colombia and with Latin American and European Technology Platforms.

Thanks to the visit of the coordinator of the international cooperation project FIRST, Mr. Antonio Alfaro, a portion of the Steering Council of the first Chilean Technology Platform, Machi Future Internet, met in the office of REUNA to sign the Vision 2020 and to review the 2011 work plan.

The signature of the Machi Future Internet Vision document marked the formal start of this community of entrepreneurs, researchers and government officials which goal is to unite interests to strengthen R&D activities with the European Union. Machi Future Internet community is a mirror of similar groups in Europe that covers several thematic areas, known as European Technology Platforms (ETP). There are ETPs covering the most diverse subjects: energy, water, transportation, future internet, software, mobile communications, etc. Since Machi emerged as an initiative of the FIRST project, established by the European Commission, the direct benefit for its members is the relationship with European counterparts who share similar interests, thus Machi has been established as a gateway to internationalization.

On April 11th, PLATA leaders, the first Future Internet Technology Platform in Argentina, met to sign the Vision 2020 and discuss the action plan for 2011. This meeting took place thanks to the visit of Mr. Antonio Alfaro, FIRST coordinator, the international cooperation project of the Seventh Framework Programme which funds the implementation of PLATA.

The FIRST project has implemented Future Internet Techonology Platforms in five Latin-American countries. Technology Platform is a community of entrepreneurs and researchers whose aim is to cooperate in R+D activities in various ICT areas of Future Internet. In Europe, there are not only ICT Technology Platforms, but also Technology Platforms about many others issues such as water, energy, transportation, etc.
