Implementing cooperation on Future
Internet and ICT Components between
Europe and Latin America

The Conference was organized by three projects: FORESTA, CHIEP II and Eularinet Fostering S&T Cooperation between the European Union, Latin America and the Caribbean

Santiago de Chile: On June 7th and 8th the capital city of Chile was hostess of the International Conference ICT Challenges for Innovation, which was an instance for scientific and political dialogue that brought together representatives from the industry, government and national research, with the aim of exploring and proposing instruments, mechanisms and strategies to foster collaboration in R&D&i in the field of ICT with the European Union (EU).

This event, lead by European and Latin American experts, had two main levels: enhance the cooperation between Chile and the EU and between Latin America and the EU. During two days, the attendants discussed common issues in order to reinforce collaboration in R&D&i in ICT between the two regions.

The first day of event was called “ICT: Current Challenges for Innovation.” There, a set of round tables discussed the diverse needs of key stakeholders. MACHI work table was moderated by Dr. Hugo Durney, R&D Director of UTEM, leader of Emobility Chile (MACHI) and partner of FORESTA project in Chile. The participants were, in a major portion, members of MACHI. Dr. Silvia Bidart and Mrs. Luz Ledesma Clavell participated in this round table on behalf of the FIRST Project and as MACHI Secretariat. A brief presentation of the goals of the year was given by Mrs. Ledesma and afterwards, the experts discussed about many barriers a proposals of the R&D situation and the cooperation with EU. One thing very interested was the level of comprehension that Academia and Industry have of each other. Another topic was the European knowledge about Chilean issues.

In the second day of the conference, called “ICT: Future Challenges for Innovation”, Dr. Durney presented the results of “development of analysis and propositions” that MACHI round table prepared the day before. The proposals made by MACHI achieved not only the local level, but the regional one, exceeding the FORESTA project goals.

This results will feed the FORESTA projects results and will also give valuable inputs for Chile`s roadmap.

Congratulations to FORESTA, CHIEP II and Eularinet for the great work!
