On December 1, UTEM hosted a workshop convened by the FIRST project, funded by the European Commission (Seventh Framework Programme), which aimed to define an initial Steering Committee and Working Groups for the Future Internet Chilean Technology Platform, thenceforth named MACHI.
MACHI is a network that gathers ICT Chilean stakeholders in order to foster international cooperation in R&D projects. Chile already have organizations that participated in these type of projects: Pontificia Universidad Católica has just finished.

ProChile Valparaiso, CONICyT, SISS. Industry sector: AKTION, Global Red, Nectia, MKD Embedded, SOLVIT, Excelsys, Virtual21. Academic Sectoor: Tecnológica Metropolitana, de Santiago de Chile, Central de Chile, Católica de Valparaíso, Católica del Norte, de San Sebastián, del Centro, de Talca, Metropolitana de Ciencias de la Educación, NIC Chile.
The following Working Groups were constituted:
Embedded Software, Software and Services, Smart Systems Integration, Mobile Communications, Networked Electronic Media.
These working groups will identify, based on technological and economic considerations of the country, a shared strategic research agenda, a list of priorities for R&D to cooperate internationally on projects.
Tony Velin, FIRST coordinator and member of the European Platform for Software and Services (NESSI), explained the functioning of the Platform and the Software situation today because of the dramatic global changes. The benefit of NESSI is that provides an holistic vision—-
One point requested by the participants was the active involvement of Associations and Chambers in the working groups. In Europe, they only participate as observers, butthe Chilean method includes them because they are the ones that motivate companies to participate in such type of projects. Following this line, Flavio Bergozza, AIE General Manager considered for the electronics industry it is very important to participate in this community.
The Computer Sciences Specialty of the College of Engineering provided an excellent work that will contribute to produce the Vision: Proyecto País, a prospective and multidisciplinary work, which contributes to developing a holistic and futuristic design of Chile.
Dr. Silvia Bidart, Regional Coordinator and Partner of FIRST, expressed that she was very happy with the outcomes of the meeting and the group that was constituted.
Special thanks to ProteinLab UTEM, to REUNA who provided the excellent connection of Video Conference, to UTEM and its precious headquarters and to CHIEP II-ConiCyT.
