A high level group of EU-LatAm experts and observers are participating in the definition of a common EU-LatAm Vision document for strengthen R&D activities between both regions. In addition, it is important to remark that this is a historical moment since the FIRST project is inaugurating the Future Internet discussions in Latin America; therefore, this is just starting!
FIRST is a project that is implementing Future Internet Technology Platforms in Latin America. This fact, together with the beginning of the Future Internet discussions in the region, brings many benefits as well as challenges. One benefit is already being palpable since Industry and Academia are joining efforts. Besides, it should be pointed out that Latin American Technology Platforms are free and open to all stakeholders from Future Internet field in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia and Mexico. When talking about challenges, the identification of common R&D priorities never happened in Latin America, so this is an excellent opportunity to start thinking regionally.
Regarding the role of experts and observers, Julián Seseña, FIRST project coordinator, pointed out: their role is key since they will help to identify the country priorities, to find out common Future Internet themes among countries. Why do we develop the Internet of the Future? Because we want the government to invest in our ideas.
The European Commission, OAS, ECLAC, AHCIET, SELA, RedCLARA, among other key stakeholders, are participating in this challenge.
The next steps will be defining a Common Strategic Research Agenda and a Common Roadmap of implementation.
