A Gateway to internationalization and new opportunities

On April 11th, PLATA leaders, the first Future Internet Technology Platform in Argentina, met to sign the Vision 2020 and discuss the action plan for 2011. This meeting took place thanks to the visit of Mr. Antonio Alfaro, FIRST coordinator, the international cooperation project of the Seventh Framework Programme which funds the implementation of PLATA.

The FIRST project has implemented Future Internet Techonology Platforms in five Latin-American countries.Technology Platform is a community of entrepreneurs and researchers whose aim is to cooperate in R+D activities in various ICT areas of Future Internet. In Europe, there are not only ICT Technology Platforms, but also Technology Platforms about many others issues such as water, energy, transportation, etc.

The signing of the PLATA VISION document marked the formal start of this community of Argentineans entrepreneurs and researchers (with the add of government agents) that seed to define the ICT issues with more potential for R+D. The direct benefit for PLATA is the relationship with European counterparts that have the same interests, therefore, is established as a gateway to internationalization for Argentinean companies and universities.

Between April and May, PLATA will define and Strategic Research Agenda (SRA) to identify technology priorities in which Argentina has interest and which, in turn, are areas where Europe has interest in working.

PLATA Future Internet is formed by Working Groups led by Argentinean Entrepreneurs and Researchers:

- ICT Components Group: Led by Daniel Lupi (Fundación Argentina de Nanotecnología). This group comprises photonics and nanoelectronics in Argentina. Already had contact with its European counterpart.

-  NUEVANET Group: Led by José María Lozao (G&L Group), Gabriel Baum (Lifia) and Gustavo Guaragna (Snoop Consulting). This group comprises software and services, networked electronic media, mobile and wireless communications and satellite communications.

-  Integrated and Embedded Systems Group: Led by Javier Orozco (Universidad Nacional del Sur) and Gabriel Baum (LIFIA). This group comprises intelligent and integrated systems e intelligent and embedded systems.

-  ITS Argentina Group: Led by Carmen de La Gamba (ITS Argentina), comprises intelligent transportation systems.

PLATA, led by European specialists in projects will become more concrete when shaping SRA research priorities in a roadmap. This means that companies and universities/research centres will be able to propose Project ideas to collaborate with the European Union.
